After Sophia lost her mother to cancer, her relationship with her father quickly deteriorated, and she withdrew into herself. Trying to find a way to escape her pain, she decided to leave everything behind—her family, her hometown in Vancouver and her boyfriend—and flee south to Portville, miles away from home, hoping to get a job babysitting for a wealthy couple.

Her new employees, Victor and Helen, seemed like a normal couple at first and had a few weird but simple rules, but from the moment Sophia set foot in their secluded villa screened off from the rest of the world and civilization by a lush forest, she knew something was seriously out of whack. Victor seemed way too interested in her, in a way that made her skin crawl, and Helen was furtive.
